Afra & Tobia Scarpa “Dialogo” dining chairs for B&B Italia, white leather and black walnut, Italy, 1973, Set of two
The “Dialogo” chair is a return to the formal solution of the “121” chair. For the design of the structure the designers began by defining a rectangular frame in very strong wood. The rounded borders, interlocks, wooden plugs and bolts that connect the four boards of the frame contribute to define the form of the structure. A second solution can be seen in the Dessau chair, where the plastic shells are attached to a support in chromium-plated metal tubing. As the name indicates, this is a citation of the first models in curved metal tubing made at the Bauhaus. Other support solutions (in tubing, cast aluminium and steel rod) have been utilized for large orders, in response to specific requests.
