Vico Magistretti “Carimate” Dining Chairs for Cassina, 1960, Set of 8

Description

Vico Magistretti “Carimate” dining chairs for Cassina, black lacquered wood and straw, Italy, 1960, set of eight.

The “Carimate” chair is one of Vico Magistretti’s most famous chairs. Magistretti created this chair for the ‘Carimate Golf Club’ in Como, Italy. The chairs changed to four different manufacturers until Magistretti requested a patent for the construction in 1963. The “Carimate” chair is inspired by the tradition of simple countryside furniture, perfecting them. An emblematic piece between tradition and innovation is patented to underline constructive precautions and functional attention, such as the gentle connection of the armrests between the height of the backrest and the upper end of the front legs. The combination of traditional Italian craftsmanship and modernist design creates a timeless chair.
