Carlo Scarpa “Argo” oval table for Simon Gavina, travertine, Italy, 1975.
The “Argo” travertine console-table is part of the ‘Ultrarazionale’ collection by Simon Gavina. In the base of the table is the architectural influence visible that Scarpa is inspired by. The oval tabletop stretches out in an almost impossible manner creating a sense of excitement. The time in which this table was designed is also worth noting, as the use of such luxurious, Classic materials as solid marble and travertine was rather innovative. This new tendency anticipated Classic shapes and expensive, durable materials that would, in fact, prove to have significant success in the coming years.
