Frank Lloyd Wright “608 Taliesin” dining table for Cassina, walnut, Italy, 1986.
This dining table was designed for the Kansas governor and state senator Henry J. Allen in 1917. Recalling the 1904 “Barrel” chairs design, the support structure consists of four sculptural pillars featuring some decorative linear details in relief and trapezoidal foot. A panel articulated in many straight wooden columns connects the sided pillars, while a central beam further supports the structure. These bottom elements fit into the other with pinpoint precision.
This substantial and imposing structure dominates the surrounding space without neglecting the traditional elegance of the rectangular shape of the tabletop.
